Popcorn is Back.
With the ecomomy being hit hard with taxes and an uncertain future, popcorn is making a comeback! Popcorn was very popular from the 1890s until the Great Depression. Street vendors used to follow crowds around, pushing steam or gas-powered poppers through fairs, parks and expositions. During the Depression, popcorn at 5 or 10 cents a bag was one of the few luxuries down-and-out families could afford. While other businesses failed, the popcorn business thrived. An Oklahoma banker who went broke when his bank failed bought a popcorn machine and started a business in a small store near a theater. After a couple years, his popcorn business made enough money to buy back three of the farms he’d lost. During World War II, sugar was sent overseas for U.S. troops, which meant there wasn’t much sugar left in the States to make candy. Thanks to this unusual situation, Americans ate three times as much popcorn as usual. Popcorn went into a slump during the early 1950s, when television became popular. Attendance at movie theaters dropped and, with it, popcorn consumption. When the public began eating popcorn at home, the new relationship between television and popcorn led to a resurge in popularity. Microwave popcorn — the very first use of microwave heating in the 1940s — has already accounted for $240 million in annual U.S. popcorn sales in the 1990s. Americans today consume 17 billion quarts of popped popcorn each year. The average American eats about 54 quarts.

Online Dating
Like many people out there, I use online dating sites to try and find the right woman for me. The trouble is, what sites are good and which are bad? If you’re getting lots of emails from girls (or guys for you women reading this) who want you to look at their cams, then that site may be bad or at least the people sending the emails are fake. Beware of these people, they try to lure you into signing up with various web cam sites before you can meet them. You might also get people who are from Russia or a lot of times in my experience, women from Ghana. They usually try to get you to “help” them with money to come back to the states or some other reason to get you to give them money. I’m on many different websites to try and find the girl for me. I’m on eHarmony, Yahoo Personals, Match, Matchmaker and more. These all have the ability to search for potential matches, usually by some search criteria. Sometimes you can look at profiles for free, but in order to contact them, you have to pay some sort of fee. Most of them are pretty reasonable, esp if you pay for 3 months or more at a time. eHarmony is a Christian based personals website that matches you with someone based on 29 dimensions of personality that are scientifically-based predictors of long-term relationship success. Apparently, every day, an average of 236 singles marry a match they [...]

Save the Animals
I’m sure many of you have seen those commercials with Sarah McLachlan, the one about the abused and neglected animals. As the commercial says, every day, thousands of cats and dogs are abandoned, left to suffer alone. Many of them will die without help from us. They are waiting for us to help them. With the economy the way it is, many people are losing their homes and cant bring their animals with so they are abandoned, forced to fend for themselves. They end up going through alleys and neighborhoods, searching for food in garbage cans. If they cant find shelter they probably don’t survive the winters. Many animals die needlessly from abuse and cruelty. I saw a video on youtube where a bull was being speared to death in a bull fight. There were kittens all dead in a bucket, tigers killed by hunters for amusement, elephants from circuses chained up, animals killed for their fur coats and of course, the testing done on animals by scientists. There are so many more acts of cruelty not captured on video or in photos. We can help stop the madness. Thankfully, there are some people who care enough to donate to organizations such PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). Thanks to these organizations and the people who donated to them, there have been many animals saved, possibly in the millions.
